Nikko AM appoints COO

Davina Goodall-Smith has been announced as chief operating officer at Nikko Asset Management Europe (Nikko AM Europe), starting from 1 May.

Goodall-Smith will also join the firm’s board of directors, subject to regulatory approval.

She joins the Japanese asset manager from BNP Paribas Securities Services, where her most recent role was head of senior relationship management, asset managers & asset owners, UK.

Mercer names partner

Ben Stone has been appointed as a partner in the risk transfer team in London, and will report to Andrew Ward, partner and risk transfer and DB journey planning leader.

In his new role, Stone will advise clients on how to most effectively manage their pension risk.

Stone joins from PwC and was, prior to that, an actuary at Willis Towers Watson.

LGIM strengthens its leadership

Brenda Sklar has joined Legal & General Investment Management (LGIM) as global chief operating officer, effective from 11 May, subject to regulatory approvals.

She will report to the firm’s chief executive, Michelle Scrimgeour.

Previously, Sklar worked as head of global client services and global chief operationg officer of business operations at Blackrock.

HSBC GAM hires Michael Ridley

HSBC Global Asset Management (HSBC Gam) has appointed Michael Ridley as senior responsible investment specialist.

Ridley will report into Melissa McDonald, head of responsible investment.

In his role, Ridley will be responsible for building and driving the firm’s sustainable impact proposition, which includes the development of an impact investing capability within the overall responsible investment strategy.

He will also lead the engagement with partners in the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and development finance institutions to establish principles for sustainable infrastructure as an asset class, HSBC Gam said.

Most recently, Ridley was global head of ESG fixed income research at HSBC’s Global Banking and Markets business. Prior to this, he held various other roles, including at German development agency GIZ, Mizuho International, and the Carbon Trust.

MSIM expands its sustainability team

Morgan Stanley Investment Management (MSIM) has appointed Emily Chew as global head of sustainability and Navindu Katugampola as head of sustainability for fixed income.

Chew will report into Ted Eliopoulos, vice chairman & head of strategic partnerships, and Rui de Figueiredo, co-head and chief investment officer of the solutions & multi-asset group.

She will, among others, lead the sustainability strategy of the firm’s investment business and governance efforts and head a team which develops environmental, social and governance (ESG) investment integration standards.

Chew will also work with the ESG leads on MSIM’s investment platforms to deliver sustainability products and solutions and oversee the firm’s engagement agenda.

Most recently, she was the global head of ESG for Manulife Investment Management and the chair of the steering committee at Climate Action 100+, a global investor initiative.

Katugampola was previously head of green and sustainable bonds at Morgan Stanley.

He will report to both Chew and Richard Ford, global head of credit.

Head of equities departs from Alecta

Bo Selling stepped down from his role as head of equities at Alecta on 1 April and will leave the Swedish pension fund on 25 May.

His role will not be replaced.

At age 62, Selling is not looking to retire and may take on assignments as a board member for other companies, the spokesperson of Alecta said.
