Energy price rise pushes eurozone inflation to 2%

Eurozone inflation has hit the ECB’s target of 2% for the first time in four years, Eurostat announced today. The rise in inflation is mainly due to a 9.2% y-o-y rise of energy prices.

Food, alcohol and tobacco inflation also exceeded the 2%-mark in February, hitting 2.5%.

However, inflation excluding energy, alcohol, food an tobacco remains well below the ECB-target of inflation of ‘close to, but below 2%’. It’s now at 0.9%, slightly below the level of 1.1% recorded in January.
