In this video, Steve Waygood, chief responsible investment officer at Aviva Investors, explains to Expert Investor that investors should utilise collective engagement and wade into the policy arena to make the net zero emissions target possible.

Waygood says that engagement strategies, as outlined in the net zero investment framework by the Institutional Investors Group on Climate Change (IIGCC), can be very powerful.

But, ultimately, market failures cannot be corrected by markets. Governments must step in by implementing, for example, emissions trading systems (ETS), regulation and fiscal measures, he explains.
