BlackRock Real Estate has promoted Thorsten Slytå to the newly-created role of head of European real estate strategic partnerships.

The move will put Slytå at the forefront of its efforts to link up with European co-investors. Slytå will focus on investing in the UK, the Nordic regions, Germany, France and Iberia, looking to investment in logistics, life sciences, and the alternatives sector. He currently serves as the firm’s head of Nordics.

Prior to BlackRock, Slytå spent two years at Barings in Sweden where he served as head of Nordics and head of Scandinavia. He also spent three-and-a-half years at M&G Real Estate where he was also head of Nordics, alongside being a director of the firm. A good proportion of Slytå’s career — between 2005 and 2016 — was also spent at Vencom, where he held various roles.

BlackRock said the move would accelerate the growth of its global real estate co-investment platform. Slytå joined the firm in 2021, expanding its teams in Copenhagen and Stockholm while doubling the total assets under management. He will continue to report to Paul Tebbit, co-head of global real estate. .

This new move is one in a slew that have run through BlackRock’s real estate wing in the last year. Tebbit himself was named to his role in February this year, becoming the first set of hands in charge of real estate since the departure of Marcus Sperber in 2019. Tebbit joined BlackRock in August 2011 as its head of EMEA real estate.
